New Additions to Burnaby Historical Society fonds

The administrative papers of the Burnaby Historical Society are now available to researchers at the City Archives!

The Burnaby Historical Society operated from 1957-2018.  During its operation, it was responsible for the development of a Community Archives and the preservation of many historical artifacts, including the 1223 Interurban tram and C.W. Parker Carousel that are both now housed at the Burnaby Village Museum.  In February 2007, the Society and the City of Burnaby signed an agreement to merge the Community Archives with the City Archives.  All the historical photographs, documents, and ephemera collected by the Society were transferred to the City Archives and made available on Heritage Burnaby at that time.  Explore the Community Archives Collection series here.

Upon disbandment in 2018, the Society generously donated their administrative records to accompany the Community Archives Collection and complete the Burnaby Historical Society fonds.  Consisting of meeting minutes, correspondence, photographs, and ephemera, these records provide valuable insight into the establishment of the Society, its over 60 years of operation, and the great contributions it made to the preservation of cultural heritage in Burnaby.  We are pleased to announce these records are also now publicly available: click here to view the finding aid for the Administration series and contact us for access.
